— ABOCI Class Information —

All Breed Obedience Club is a non-profit group dedicated to the development of the canine/human bond. We foster the three levels of dog ownership that a dog can be a pet, a companion, and a partner. Our various activities at centrally located Allied Gardens Recreation Center in San Diego, in the vicinity of Interstate 8 and Waring Road, include classes, practice sessions, Show & Goes, Flyball, Obedience Trials, and more!

Our club includes experienced dog trainers offering classes to the public. Our Beginning Pet Dog Training Class and Intermediate Pet Dog Training / Canine Good Citizenship Class, when available, emphasize basic good pet obedience. Our competition classes, when available, cater to the serious competitor. We welcome ALL dogs — mixed breeds, as well as purebred — in all of our classes, matches and activities!

— Upcoming Classes—

Membership is not required to take our obedience training classes. However, pre-registration is encouraged for all classes except our Open Enrollment Puppy Classes. Please e-mail the instructor listed for each class for more information about that class.

Using positive methods of learning this class will teach you how to reward good behaviors and discourage less desirable ones. Whether you've already started your dog on the road to 'good manners' with puppy kindergarten, your older dog needs a refresher, or you've just added a new member to your family, there's something here for you. Learn the basics such as 'sit', 'down', 'stay', 'come' and 'leave it' as well as other behaviors such as 'go to your mat' and how to walk nicely on a leash. This class will incorporate fun behaviors/activities from the new AKC Novice Trick title.

Discover quite a few ways to reward your dog, either with tasty treats, a game of fetch, or other real life rewards that can motivate him/her to respond in a more positive way toward you and other two- legged members of your household.

I will be holding a Hound Around Town class on a weekday morning (date and time TBA) . This class will focus on urban manners skills. It is not a formal preparatory class for the CGCU, but many of those skills will be covered.

We will be focusing on being good canine community members in busy urban areas. How to manage busy sidewalks, avoiding and changing responses to triggers, managing arousal, polite manners in various settings, including cafes, coffee houses, busy intersections and up and down stairs.

Participants should be able to walk their dogs in most places without too much difficulty. No aggressive or seriously reactive dogs allowed.

The class is shorter than most of our classes and is offered at a special price. The course will run for 3 weeks. Each class session will be from one to two hours. The cost is $30.00 for the general public and $10.00 for ABOCI club members. Checks should be made out to ABOCI and submitted at the first class session.

We will meet in various locations each week. All locations will be West of I-805, North of Downtown and South of Pacific Beach. Participants should expect to purchase beverages or small amounts of food when we practice cafe manners each class session.
