— ABOCI Class Information —

All Breed Obedience Club is a non-profit group dedicated to the development of the canine/human bond. We foster the three levels of dog ownership that a dog can be a pet, a companion, and a partner. Our various activities at centrally located Allied Gardens Recreation Center in San Diego, in the vicinity of Interstate 8 and Waring Road, include classes, practice sessions, Show & Goes, Flyball, Obedience Trials, and more!

Our club includes experienced dog trainers offering classes to the public. Our Beginning Pet Dog Training Class and Intermediate Pet Dog Training / Canine Good Citizenship Class, when available, emphasize basic good pet obedience. Our competition classes, when available, cater to the serious competitor. We welcome ALL dogs — mixed breeds, as well as purebred — in all of our classes, matches and activities!

— Upcoming Classes—

Membership is not required to take our obedience training classes. However, pre-registration is encouraged for all classes except our Open Enrollment Puppy Classes. Please e-mail the instructor listed for each class for more information about that class.

Dogs ages 6 months and up

Using positive methods of learning this class will teach you how to reward good behaviors and discourage less desirable ones. Whether you've already started your dog on the road to 'good manners' with puppy kindergarten, your older dog needs a refresher, or you've just added a new member to your family, there's something here for you. Learn the basics such as 'sit', 'down', 'stay', 'come' and 'leave it' as well as other behaviors such as 'go to your mat' and how to walk nicely on a leash. This class will incorporate fun behaviors/activities from the new AKC Novice Trick title.

Discover quite a few ways to reward your dog, either with tasty treats, a game of fetch, or other real life rewards that can motivate him/her to respond in a more positive way toward you and other two- legged members of your household.

Welcome to the exciting sport of Canine Scent Work!

This class will teach handler and dog teams the foundational skills to pursue the sport of scent detection by encouraging the dog's natural desire to hunt and to utilize one of their greatest assets, their nose and olfactory system.

Scent work is a fun, positive and challenging activity performed in a variety of environments and changing conditions that build and strengthen the bond and trust between the dog and handler.

The dog is taught to recognize specific odors and convey that recognition through a natural alert to the handler.  Communication, praise and reward of the dog during the search are encouraged.  This class is open to all ages and breeds of dogs as well as all handlers.

Please e-mail Joy to reserve a space.

Space is limited and must be reserved in advance!
